Our world often feels chaotic and unpredictable, but artists hold a unique and profound role. We are dreamers, visionaries ~ the ones who look beyond the mundane and tap into wonder. As artists, we have the honor and call to bring good and beautiful expressions into being. This calling is a privilege, and has the power to help shape our communities, our culture, and our world.
The Honor of Creating
Creating art is an honorable pursuit. It involves taking raw materials—whether they are paints, words, movements, or sounds—and transforming them into something that resonates on a deeper level. This process of creation gives us endless possibilities of the imagination, and it is part of our God–given design. Each piece of art we create is a reflection of our perceptions, thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It’s an intimate process that allows us to share a part of ourselves with the world in a completely unique way.
The Call to Beauty
Beauty is magnetic! It inspires, heals, and brings joy. It calls to something deep within us. As artists, we bring beauty into existence; we craft works that evoke emotion and provoke thought. This call to beauty has diverse possibilities. We express the deeper truths that resonate within us and in turn, we create something that speaks to the human spirit and uplifts those who encounter it.
Expression as a Force for Good
Goodness and beauty are intrinsically linked in the realm of art. When we create with intention, our expressions have the power to influence and touch the heart of others. We can pose a challenge, raise awareness, or foster empathy and understanding. Our work can provide solace in times of distress and celebrate moments of joy. By committing to creating good and beautiful expressions, we give a glimpse into a more compassionate and just world.
Embracing the Mid-Year Reset
Right about now, we are midway through the year, and it may be time for a mid-year reset! I find it necessary to reignite my motivation and I want to approach the coming months wisely. Mid year can be a great time to reflect, reassess, and realign my goals with plans that are achievable.
The Importance of Planning
Planning is essential ~ it gives us an intentional direction and helps us channel our creative energies effectively. Like a roadmap, it guides us toward a destination, providing structure and clarity when the journey of an artist can seem unpredictable.
However, rigid planning can also be overwhelming, stifling creativity. That’s why it’s crucial to plan with flexibility and grace. Diversions will happen and can often present valuable opportunities. A mindset that embraces an unexpected detour can be an asset, even as we follow the plan.
The Manageability of a 90-Day Plan
I’ve found that a 90 day plan is manageable and effective. This shorter time frame allows me to set goals in shorter steps toward larger ones, maintaining focus and motivation. It allows for time to celebrate achievements and reassess as needed. Breaking the year into smaller segments seems less daunting and the steps more attainable.
The Artist’s Journey
I’ve found my journey as an artist to have moments of doubt and struggle, but also filled with a sense of growth, achievement and joy. Embracing our role as creators means acknowledging the challenges and persevering through them. It means continually honing our craft, seeking inspiration, and continuing to respond to the world around us as we find balance between discipline and spontaneity, structure and freedom.
Conclusion
Artists are entrusted with something sacred. We have the honor of bringing beauty into the world and the call to use our expressions for good. Our creations are not just objects or performances; they are reflections of who we are created to be in God’s image. Embracing this calling with passion and purpose is fulfilling as we touch hearts and bring beauty into being.
Is it time for a mid-year assessment with a plan for the next 90 days? I know that a purposeful plan keeps me on track with my creative work and with the things I do to share the gifts I’ve received with the world around me.
