We all need some encouragement and inspiration! Here's how to get it!

The Critic Within

As Artists We Can Be Our Own Worst Enemy

© 2020 Helen C Read

We’ve all been there…. the doubt, the second guessing,
that negative inner voice that begins to tear down everything we’ve done.

It causes us to hide.
It causes us to diminish our progress.
It might even cause us to come to a complete stand still.

We can be very hard on ourselves and very critical of the work we’ve created.

Stop!  Let’s give ourselves some grace.
We are all and always in the process of learning.
Learning means we are “getting there”.  We are perfecting our skills.

Just as we watch children learn to walk, learn to talk, and become proficient at their skills, we applaud them in the process. We encourage them.
We celebrate and are proud of their accomplishments.

And we need to do the same for ourselves!
We need to recognize that artistic work is an expenditure of effort… not always easy, but rewarding.  It takes persistence and commitment and over the course of time we
flourish and grow.

  • Recognize that as an artist, this is your God-given design and you are meant to step into it
  • Keep a visual record of your own work and progress to see your own growth
  • Commit to stay the course.  Persist.  Don’t give up!

Your voice is unique and it’s just what is needed.
Don’t let your inner critic silence it.
